The Course
Royal Dornoch is the golfer's golf course — the one the great players quietly say they'd play if they could only play one. Golf has been recorded on this ground since 1616. The current links, laid out by Old Tom Morris in 1886, remains almost untouched.
The setting is what separates it. Gorse and heather on rolling dunes, the Dornoch Firth a hundred yards from the fairway, and a horizon that runs to Orkney with nothing in it.
We arrange play with a caddie who has been on the ground for thirty years, a room at Skibo or Links House, and a Highland driver who knows every distillery on the way home.

How difficult is it to get on the Championship links?
Visitor times exist but are tightly held in high summer, and members' priority governs the best hours. We book Dornoch first and shape the rest of the northern week around it.
Is Dornoch too remote to reach comfortably?
Not at all. It is roughly forty-five minutes north of Inverness by private car, and guests routinely fly into INV or arrive by helicopter from Fife or Edinburgh.
How far ahead should we book Royal Dornoch?
Nine to eighteen months for the summer months, and longer where a specific date matters. June and July mornings are the first to go, given the long northern light. We hold provisional dates while the rest of the week is built around the round.
Are caddies and clubs arranged for us?
Yes. A senior local caddie is booked per guest as a matter of course, and premium rental sets are placed in the car if you would rather not travel with your own. Clubs can also be shipped ahead and waiting in the pro shop.
Do you handle transfers and accommodation as well as the tee time?
Always. A round is never sold alone — the private car, the house you sleep in, the table booked for dinner and the pacing of the day are arranged together, so the golf sits inside a week rather than beside it.
What happens if the weather closes in?
Scottish links play in most weather, and the round usually goes ahead. Where a course closes, we move the tee time within the week or substitute a comparable links nearby, and any unrecoverable green fee is returned in full.
